Molti non riuscivano a rivolgere la parola agli alieni, temendo che una loro risposta facesse esplodere ciò che era vero, la minima tensione superficiale tra le cose di tutti i giorni, la patina degli eventi reali, aprendo la strada alle rovine dei mondi alternativi, concorrenti, agli universi paralleli, scartati nella successione dei minuti, da piccoli fatti, coincidenze realizzate, gesti distratti compiuti sulla porta di casa, leggendo per strada un messaggio.

Many could no longer bring themselves to speak to the aliens, fearing that their answer would burst open what was true, the slight surface tension of everyday things, paving the way to the ruins of alternative, competing worlds, parallel universes, discarded in the flow of minutes, of miniscule events, materialized coincidences, distracted gestures while going out the door, reading a text message on the way.
